Intruders, beware the sleeping Panda. Mei Ling, an adult male panda at Nanchang Zoo, was recently caught on CCTV wrestling an intruder who snuck into his enclosure after being rudely awakened.

The unnamed man apparently thought it would be a good idea to sneak into the enclosure to impress his female friends. As the man bent over the sleeping panda, Mei Ling swiftly grabbed his leg and brought him down with a fine tackle. Rather than being aggressive, though, Mei Ling was simply friendly and playful. The maneuver is one which pandas often perform on zookeepers and breeders.

After trying to get Mei Ling to release him by unsuccessfully stroking the panda's back, panic set in for the intruder. Wriggling and writhing, he managed to shake off the 120kg panda and make a dash for the exit.

According to witnesses, the man left with with only his trousers and pride damaged.

Kuang Huaming, a zookeeper at Nanchang Zoo in Jiangxi province, said that “the young man left the zoo after he escaped, and we could not get in touch with him.”

“We also arranged medical checks for the panda and told the breeder to closely observe its condition," said Kuang. "So far the panda is fine.”
